Time to Rave about my Faves

Five Recent Kidlit Favorites (in no particular order):

Highlights Foundation – If you are in need of a writing retreat, look no further than the Highlights Foundation. For three nights, I stayed in my own private cabin and was able to grow my writing tribe while finding the quiet space to be creative. I met a fellow attendee who was there for her seventh time! I can see how this peaceful property tucked into the Poconos keeps creatives coming back again and again.

The Remember Balloons by Jessie Oliveros and Dana Wulfekotte (Simon & Schuster BfYR, 2018) – This beautiful story celebrates the special relationships we have with our grandparents, even when their memories start to fail them. Grab some tissues and share this with all those in your life who are touched by dementia and Alzheimer’s.

My book launch of Porcupine’s Pie is less than a month away! It has been so fun planning a launch party. Everyday my excitement grows when boxes containing bookmarks, stickers, and flyers arrive in the mail. And soon I’ll be opening a box of author copies! I can’t wait to hold my book in my hands for the first time…

My kids and I raised 27 Monarch caterpillars this month. We plucked lots of milkweed to feed their insatiable appetites. Then our Caterpillar Hotel became a Monarch nursery. Today, we witnessed the first butterfly to emerge. Watching these amazing creatures has sparked our curiosity, helped us embrace waiting, and tuned our eyes to a watchfulness that would be good to remember in our day-to-day lives.

Can you “Find the Face”? It was super fun to see craft examples from my craft/game in the February 2018 issue of Highlights when I stepped into the Highlights Magazine reception area in Honesdale, PA!
