This Week in My Library Basket…

2018 continues to surprise and delight with stunning picture books. Let’s take a peek in my library basket this week!

GRUMPY MONKEY by Suzanne and Max Lang (Random House)

First, I love the main character’s name: Jim Panzee! He is having a grumpy day. Readers will appreciate his need for understanding, more than his need to be cheered up.

MIXED: A COLORFUL STORY by Arree Chung (Henry Holt and Company)

Part art lesson, part social commentary, MIXED can be used as a springboard for rich discussions about individuality, diversity, and inclusion.

COUNTING ON KATHERINE: HOW KATHERINE JOHNSON SAVED APOLLO 13 by Helaine Becker and Dow Phumiruk

Hidden Figures couldn’t tell the whole story of Katherine Johnson’s career. Here is one for the history books!

TREVOR by Jim Averbeck and Amy Hevron

Friends come in all shapes and sizes. Sometimes, all we need is a listening ear to give us the boost we need to grow.
